Müther-Turm

The Müther-Turm is a unique hidden gem sitting along the Binzer Strand. It was originally built as a lookout for lifeguards, but since 2006 it has been a branch of the local registry office and is mainly used for weddings or local events. The building is quite unique in its design with two thin concrete shells sitting one on top of the other and glass filling the gap between them. It appears to sit all alone overlooking the beach and its raised profile gives you lots of angles to experiment with. Getting down onto the sand lets you capture a unique perspective by looking up at the underside of the shells, with the column and stair in the frame. Since the beach faces northeast here, the sun comes up out of the Baltic in front of the tower, close to in line with it through the summer. Sunrise gives amazing colours that pop against the crisp white of the tower. Blue hour is another great time to plan to be here. The glass lights up from inside and the pale concrete goes cool against a dark sky. The interior is not open to walk through, and since it only holds a dozen people it's too small to capture many interior photos anyway. The beach is open all the time so you will have plenty of space and time to experiment and find the ideal compositions to match your shooting style. Ulrich-Müther-Platz is a couple of minutes away along the promenade if you want to make a short loop of it. (Binz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany)
