The Nassau County 9/11 Memorial sits at the edge of the lake in Eisenhower Park as a tribute to the 348 Nassau County residents who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks. The memorial features two tall, semi-transparent steel towers honoring the World Trade Center rising from a cascading fountain along with a long stone names wall. The towers are the heart of this scene, shining in the light and creating soft reflections across the lake. You can set up on the far side of the water to mirror the towers in the lake, then come around to the garden to shoot the recovered steel beams sitting in the garden. A standard zoom, around 24-70mm, covers almost everything here, although a longer lens can be useful for isolating the towers across the water. Calm, still mornings give the cleanest reflections, and the low warm light of early or late day works well with the steel. The memorial sits in a free, open part of the park with parking close by so access is easy. While you are shooting remember it is a reflective, carefully kept place, so take your time and be respectful of others visiting the space. (East Meadow, New York, USA)
