National Memorial Arch
Standing at the heart of Valley Forge National Historical Park, the National Memorial Arch is a grand triumphal structure inspired by ancient Roman victory arches, built to commemorate Washington's arrival with the Continental Army. The arch rewards photographers who take time to explore multiple angles: shoot straight through the central opening to frame the landscape beyond, or position yourself low and wide to emphasize the arch's towering scale against the sky. A wide to mid-range lens, something in the 24-50mm range, works well here. Early morning light gives you soft, even illumination across the carved stone details with minimal crowds, while golden hour adds warm tones and long shadows that bring out the relief sculpture and texture. The surrounding open lawn lets you pull back for establishing shots using the arch as a bold anchor in the frame. Parking is close and the site is easy to walk to.
