New York State Inebriate Asylum,
This massive Gothic Revival structure in Binghamton is one of the most architecturally dramatic abandoned buildings in the northeastern United States, with its towering turrets, arched windows, and weathered stone facade creating a striking subject that rewards careful composition. You cannot enter the building due to fencing, but the exterior offers plenty to work with from public vantage points along Robinson Street. Shoot from across the open grounds to capture the full symmetry of the facade, or move closer to isolate individual towers and decorative stonework with a mid-range telephoto around 70-200mm. Overcast days are ideal here, as flat light brings out the texture of the aging stone and suits the somber mood of the place. Early morning keeps foot traffic low and avoids harsh shadows across the irregular roofline. A wide angle works well for dramatic low-angle compositions that emphasize the building's imposing height against the sky. (Binghamton, New York, United States)
