Ngarunui Beach Lookout is a grassy meadow on the clifftop above Raglan's main surf beach, out on the wild west coast of the North Island. Below you there's a long stretch of dark volcanic sand, surf rolling in line after line, and the Tasman Sea running off to the horizon. The view feels endless as you shoot down over the beach, or reach out with a longer lens to pull in the surfers. The coast faces west, so this is an amazing spot to experiment with sunset photography. When the sun drops into the sea the wet black sand turns into a mirror and lights up with all that colour. A grey, stormy day can be great here too if you want to experiment with moody vibes. This lookout is easily accessed with quick drive out of Raglan on Wainui Road and only a short walk to the lookout from the parking area. If you are aiming to capture sunset, its best to get there early on a summer evening because the car park often fills up later in the day. (Raglan, Waikato, New Zealand)
