Nike Missile Control Site
San Vicente Mountain Park preserves a Cold War-era Nike missile control site, where concrete bunkers, radar towers, and military infrastructure sit largely intact against a backdrop of sweeping mountain views. The combination of brutalist structures and open landscape gives you strong compositional options, whether you are framing the angular radar tower against the sky, using the low bunker walls as leading lines, or shooting wide to capture the full sweep of the San Fernando Valley and the Santa Monica Mountains toward Malibu. Golden hour works especially well here, when warm light catches the weathered concrete and long shadows add depth to the geometric forms. A wide-angle lens handles the expansive views, while a 24-70mm gives you flexibility to move between detail shots and landscapes. The site is free to access and sits at the end of a short trail from the parking area off Mulholland Drive. (Los Angeles, California, United States)
