Northern Lights Cathedral is a striking piece of contemporary architecture in Alta, its curved titanium facade and soaring spiral tower making it one of the most photogenic modern churches in Scandinavia. The building's metallic cladding shifts in tone depending on the light, reflecting everything from pale arctic blue to deep amber and gold. Shoot from across the small surrounding plaza to capture the full sweep of the spiral against the sky, or move in close to emphasize the texture and curves of the titanium panels. Evening is the best time to visit, when interior and exterior lighting illuminates the structure against the dark sky; in winter, there is a real chance of framing the aurora overhead. A wide angle lens handles the full composition well, while a short telephoto lets you isolate the tower and facade details. The plaza is open and flat, giving you room to experiment with low angles.
