Perched atop Mont Mégantic in Quebec's Eastern Townships, this working astronomical observatory offers a striking combination of domed telescope buildings, mountain terrain, and some of the darkest skies in eastern North America. The iconic white domes contrast beautifully against the surrounding forest and open sky, giving you strong architectural subjects to work with during both day and night. For daytime shooting, position yourself on the access paths around the summit to capture the domes against dramatic cloud formations or autumn foliage. The real draw, however, is astrophotography after dark; the surrounding area is a designated dark sky reserve, making star trails and Milky Way compositions exceptionally rewarding. A wide-angle lens in the 14-24mm range works well for night sky work, while a longer focal length helps isolate the domes against distant ridgelines. Check observatory hours before visiting, as public access is managed. (Notre-Dame-des-Bois, Quebec, Canada)
