Orchard View
This roadside stretch along London Drive places rows of working orchard trees directly in front of Mount Hood, creating a natural layered composition that is hard to beat. The trees follow the gentle contours of the land and draw your eye straight toward the mountain, so positioning yourself low on the road and using a longer focal length, around 70 to 200mm, will compress that distance and make Hood loom large behind the blossoms. Spring is the prime window when the fruit trees flower in whites and pinks, adding color and texture to the foreground, though the scene works in summer and fall as the trees fill out and change. Early morning light is ideal, with soft directional rays catching the blossoms and mist sometimes sitting in the valley below the peak. Park safely on the road shoulder and shoot from the public right of way, as all the surrounding trees belong to private farms and the crops should not be disturbed.
