The historic Phare du Vieux Môle (Old Jetty Lighthouse) stands tall at the end of the imposing granite jetty dating back to 1838. Until then, Saint-Nazaire only had a small beach port, accessible only at high tide and not at all adapted to the very intense maritime and river traffic of the time. With the jetty put into service in 1838, ships, including the “steamers of the Loire” carrying passengers, could finally dock more easily. (Saint-Nazaire, France)
