About Playa Amarilla
Playa Amarilla is a quiet beach on Nicaragua's Pacific coast, stretching out for about a kilometre between two rocky headlands just north of the fishing village of Playa Gigante. It's such a peaceful little gem that you'll often have almost the whole stretch to yourself. The surf breaks right in front of the sand, so if you are lucky there might be a few surfers dotting the waterline, so make sure to have a long lens in your kit just in case. The wind here usually blows offshore, which holds the waves up and lifts spray off their tops, so watch for that late in the day with the sun behind it. At low tide a flat rock reef appears out of the water, giving you texture to add to the foreground of wide shots along the beach. Make sure to plan on staying for sunset. The beach opens to the west and the sky goes warm over the Pacific creating amazing colours. The beach sits just north of the fishing village of Playa Gigante so getting there is easy. You will have lots of space to experiment with compositions and wait for just the right light to match your shooting style. (Playa Gigante, Rivas, Nicaragua)
