The Point Lowly lighthouse was constructed in 1883 to guide ships safely through Spencer Gulf en route to Port Augusta and Port Pirie in South Australia. Since 1995, the lighthouse has been owned by the City of Whyalla and is no longer used as an active light station. Sitting an a peaceful point jutting into the northern end of the Spencer Gulf gives the lighthouse a beautiful vantage point over the surrounding bay, especially at sunset. This location is also an ideal area to experiment with astrophotography. (Point Lowly, South Australia, Australia)
