Pont Butin
Pont Butin is a striking stone arch bridge crossing the Rhône, built in the early 20th century with a distinctive layered design: five large arches, each topped with a row of smaller decorative arches, creating a rhythm of repeating shapes that rewards careful composition. Shooting from the riverbank below gives you the full span with reflections in the water, while a longer focal length lets you compress the arches into a tight, graphic pattern. Early morning light is ideal, with soft, even tones that bring out the texture of the stone without harsh shadows. The bridge is also worth shooting at blue hour, when the structure is lit and the sky still holds color. Access is straightforward from either bank, and the paths along the Rhône give you room to find your angle. A 24-70mm or a telephoto in the 70-200mm range both work well here.
