About Port Burwell Pier
The Port Burwell Pier stretches out into Lake Erie where Big Otter Creek meets the lake. The pier has a clear and endless feeling view looking east out over the lake. So from out on the pier you get sunrise over water on one side and sunset over it on the other. Same spot, both ends of the day. There are two piers, one on either side of the channel, with a slightly different view from each one. The east one has a small range light at the far end and is lined with benches. The Port Burwell Beach sits right beside the east pier, so you can shoot it from the sand with the whole stretch of concrete working as a leading line out to the light at the end. Shooting from the pier lets you capture the fishing boats come and go. Lake Erie is shallow so the wind and weather has a big effect on how the water behaves. Stormy winds can create amazing waves over the pier, and in the heart of winter the spray often covers everything in layers of ice. Come on a clear evening and stay after dark, because there's not much light out this way and the sky over the lake opens right up. (Port Burwell, Ontario, Canada)
