Potarch Bridge is a handsome three-arched stone bridge built in 1812, spanning a wide, clear stretch of the River Dee framed by wooded hills typical of Aberdeenshire's rural interior. The bridge's warm granite tones photograph beautifully when reflected in the calm water below, so look for a low angle near the riverbank to line up both the arches and their mirror image. A wide to mid-range lens works well here, letting you include the surrounding treeline for context. Morning light hits the bridge face directly and often produces still water ideal for reflections, while autumn transforms the surrounding hillsides into rich copper and amber, making it one of the best seasons to visit. There is a small car park nearby and easy access to the riverbank on both sides, so you can work multiple angles without much effort. (Torphins, Aberdeenshire, Scotland)
