About Praia da Adraga
Praia da Adraga is a rugged beach tucked away between tall cliffs deep in Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. A wide stretch of soft golden sand runs between two very different ends. At the southern end of the beach a natural arch cuts through the rock and at low tide you can walk right through it to a soft sandy section. The north end is lined with big dark rocks and sea stacks, with caves to explore once the water disappears during low tide. The beach faces directly west so the sun goes down straight over the Atlantic, creating amazing colours. The dark rocks are a fun foreground to contrast against an orange sky. If you are lucky enough to pair low tide and sunset together you can use the arch as a natural frame for the sea as the light fades. This is the perfect spot to take your time and experiment. A slow shutter speed works well as the waves wash in around the stacks to smooth the water into a soft mist or a wide lens lets you capture the whole view down the beach as it changes from soft sand to rugged dark rock. The beach changes completely between high and low tide so make sure to check the tide times before heading out, you will have much more to work with during low water. A narrow road from Almoçageme ends at a parking lot right beside the sand, and there's an amazing seafood restaurant at the sourthern end for while you wait for just the right light.
