Built between 1910 and 1919, this striking Art Nouveau dam on the Elbe River combines industrial engineering with castle-like architecture, featuring ornate turrets, arches, and decorative stonework that make it unlike almost any other dam in the world. The most iconic composition frames the full facade of the dam from the riverbank below, where the symmetrical towers reflect beautifully in calm water. You can also shoot from the top of the dam itself, looking down into the gorge or across the reservoir toward the forested hills. Morning light works best here, with soft illumination hitting the stone facade and reducing harsh shadows in the deep valley. A wide-angle lens handles the full structure well, while a telephoto lets you isolate the turret details. Parking is available nearby and the site is easy to walk around on foot.
