About PwC Building, More London Riverside

The PwC Building sits in the heart of More London Riverside looking out over the river. This building is quite eye catching with all of it's unique architectural features. It sits in a horseshoe shape that funnels you into a circular courtyard filled with greenery. On the outer sides of the horseshoe, every window pane sits in its own metal box. Along the back of the building the windows sit flat in their little cages but along the sides each window is tilted out from the wall, plus each one is angled slightly differently and set at a slightly different depth. This creates an amazing view where instead a flat sheet of glass you get ten storeys of shifting blocks that each catch the light differently all the way up. Leading into the courtyard the front of the building opens up into a huge curved void that cuts through several floors. A long lens lets you highlight the shape of those smooth sweeping curves above and below the cutout, along with the two arms of the building closing in on either side of you. You can also stand under it and shoot straight up, letting the curve fill your frame. Out on the street edges you can get right against the wall and shoot along it so the boxes stack into a zigzag. Side light in the morning or late afternoon lets the boxes throw shadows onto each other and create intricate patterns. If you are able to come back at dusk, floors are all lit and glow through the dark glass. The More London area is all privately owned, so you will have to respect their photography rules. Shooting handheld is allowed but security will probably ask you to fold up your tripod. The Thames path along the riverfront is public if you need a spot to set up back from the private property areas. (London, England, United Kingdom)
