Rathlin West Lighthouse stands on the rugged cliffs of Rathlin Island off the north coast of Northern Ireland. Often described as an “upside-down” lighthouse, its light is positioned at the base of the tower rather than at the top, allowing it to shine beneath the thick fog that frequently blankets the cliffs. Built more than a century ago, the lighthouse continues to guide vessels through the surrounding waters while perched dramatically above the Atlantic. The site also hosts the RSPB Rathlin West Light Seabird Centre, where visitors can observe large colonies of seabirds including puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes, razorbills, and fulmars nesting along the cliffs. Viewing platforms near the lighthouse provide photographers with sweeping coastal views and excellent opportunities for wildlife and cliffside landscape photography.
