Richmond Park is a vast royal deer park on the southwestern edge of London, offering some of the most accessible wildlife photography in the UK. The resident herds of red and fallow deer are the main draw, and you can get remarkably close, especially during autumn rutting season when stags are active and vocal. Look for deer framed against ancient oak trees, or use a wide aperture to isolate individuals against soft bokeh backgrounds of bracken and woodland. The Isabella Plantation and Pen Ponds are also worth exploring for reflections and waterfowl. Golden hour light in early morning gives you the best atmosphere, with mist often sitting low across the grassland in autumn and winter. A telephoto lens in the 200-400mm range works well for wildlife, though wide shots capturing deer against open sky are equally striking. Car parks are spread throughout the park, making it easy to cover ground. (Richmond, London, England)
