About Rockport Beach

Rockport Beach is peaceful strip of sand along Aransas Bay, just outside of downtown Rockport on the Texas Coastal Bend. The water stays shallow and calm a long way out from shore making it an ideal location for serence compositions. Thatched palapas line the sand and two breakwater piers sit at either end stretching out into the bay, so you've got lots of foreground to experiment with. On a quiet morning you can experiment with lining up the palapa roofs along the shoreline, or walk out to the end of the pier and shoot back toward the beach. The beach faces east across the bay, which puts sunrise right in front of you over open water. On a still morning the shallow bay picks up the colour in the sky, and a slow shutter speed smooths the water out beautifully. Black skimmers nest in fenced areas on the beach and stay around all year, so make sure to have a long lens in your kit just in case they make an appearance. Please respect the posted bird signs, since some sections and roads close during nesting season. You will need a day pass to access most of the beach, you can buy it when you arrive from the gate on Seabreeze Drive. The gate opens early, so you will have lots of time to get set up before sunrise and plan on staying until the light warms up over the bay. (Rockport, Texas, United States)
