Chersonesus is an ancient Greek colony founded approximately 2,500 years ago. Today the site covers around 30 hectares filled with exposed foundations, defensive walls, and streets laid out on the original Greek grid. The standout subject is the 1935 Basilica, a 6th century structure with marble columns still standing against the Black Sea behind them. The columns catch warm light beautifully at sunrise and sunset, and the open water behind them keeps the background clean and simple. Nearby, the Uvarov's Basilica is much larger, with a rotunda over a preserved stone baptismal font that makes for a strong detail shot. The ancient Greek theatre dates back to the 3rd century BC and still holds its semicircular form well enough to read in photographs, especially from the upper rows looking down toward the water. The whole park is open and walkable, so you can move freely between subjects. Morning and late afternoon light are both strong here since the coastline faces broadly west, and overcast days bring out the texture in the ancient stonework. (Sevastopol, Crimean Peninsula)
