Ruộng Bậc Thang Hoàng Su Phì is a stunning overlook with an amazing view looking out over miles of terraced rice fields. The fields are designed this way because there is not much water in the highlands, the terrain is rough, and irrigation is difficult. This farming technique helps the water from above to flow down evenly distributed to the fields in an extremely scientific way without effort. In April to June, the fields are covered with a sea rich green from the young seedlings. This is the time when the water on the high hills flows back, spreading out into a valley, and then the bright sunlight shines down to create a mirror reflecting the vast sky. In September and October the fields change to a rich golden colour as the mature rice plants ripen. (Hoàng Su Phì District, Ha Giang, Vietnam)
