Sabbaday Falls
Sabbaday Falls is a compact but dramatic waterfall tucked into a narrow glacial gorge in the White Mountains, where water cascades through two plunges before pooling in a striking circular punchbowl carved from the bedrock. The enclosed canyon walls create naturally diffused light throughout most of the day, making overcast conditions ideal for shooting the falls without harsh shadows or blown highlights. Position yourself on the wooden walkways and stairs to shoot upward through the gorge for a sense of depth and scale, or get low near the punchbowl to capture the turquoise-tinted water and smooth stone walls framing the upper plunge. A wide angle lens works well in the tight space, and a polarizer will cut reflections and saturate the moss-covered rocks. The trail from the parking area is a short, easy walk, and the wooden railings give you stable footing close to the water. (White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire, United States)
