Sage Chapel
Sage Chapel is a 19th-century stone chapel on the Cornell University campus, blending Gothic and Romanesque architecture in a way that rewards both wide-angle interiors and tight detail shots. Inside, the soaring vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and carved woodwork give you strong vertical compositions; position yourself near the rear of the nave and shoot toward the altar to capture the full depth of the space. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for the interior, while a longer focal length lets you isolate decorative carvings and stonework. Midday light filtering through the stained glass produces rich color on the interior walls, making it one of the few spaces that actually benefits from bright overhead sun. The exterior stone facade photographs well in soft overcast light, which reduces harsh shadows on the textured surface. Check visiting hours before you go, as the chapel is used for events and services. (Ithaca, New York, United States)
