Sainte Anne Church is one of the oldest Catholic parishes in the United States, and its modest white clapboard exterior and modest steeple make for a clean, classic composition against the sky. Shoot from across the street or slightly down the block to capture the full facade with surrounding trees framing the edges, especially in spring when the foliage is fresh or in fall when the colors pop. Morning light hits the front of the church well, giving you soft, even tones without harsh shadows. A standard 35mm or 50mm equivalent works nicely here for a natural perspective, though a wider lens lets you include more of the surrounding streetscape. The church is easily accessible on foot since Mackinac Island has no cars, so take your time walking around the building to find tighter detail shots of the windows and entryway as well.
