About Sanna Beach
Sanna Beach is a remote, pristine white-sand beach with stunning views of the Small Isles, and clear turquoise waters. It is a true hidden gem. Outcrops of dark volcanic rock split the bay into several separate beaches. The Small Isles sit along the horizon, with Muck nearest, Eigg alongside it, and the mountains of Rum behind on a clear day. The rocky outcrops are perfect to build your frame around. Low tide brings wet sand and rock pools that reflect up the sky and the highlight the colour of the water. Bright sand under a high sun will blow out and drain the turquoise, so aim to be here to shoot early or late in the day. Since the bay faces west it is the perfect spot to experiment with sunset photography. In the middle of summer the sun sets far enough north to go down near the islands, while the rest of the year it drops into open water south of them. There is a car park fairly close to the beach but you will have to walk through croft land and then through sand dunes densely covered with dense machair to reach the shoreline. While you are shooting make sure to keep to the paths through the machair to protect this peaceful gem. (Sanna, Highland, Scotland)
