Scoresby Sund is the world's largest fjord system, stretching deep into the eastern coast of Greenland with a scale that is difficult to comprehend until you are standing in it. The combination of castle-sized icebergs drifting through ink-dark Arctic water, sheer cliff walls rising hundreds of meters, and the remote silence of the place makes it one of the most dramatic natural subjects on earth. Wide-angle lenses help convey the overwhelming sense of scale, while a longer telephoto lets you isolate individual icebergs against the fjord walls or compress layers of ice and rock. The soft, low-angle Arctic light that lingers for hours around golden hour in summer is ideal, casting warm tones across the blue ice and dark basalt. Most visits are by expedition vessel, so shoot from the deck or zodiac for low, intimate perspectives over the water. (Ittoqqortoormiit, East Greenland, Greenland)
