About Sculpture Garden
The University of Saskatchewan Sculpture Garden is a little hidden gem tucked between the Education Building and the Diefenbaker Canada Centre. The garden is home to a couple of dozen sculptures sitting on the grass with the South Saskatchewan River dropping away below. Most are carved from the same pale grey limestone as the campus buildings, so the pieces feel like they grew out of the place. The most eye catching one is a giant stone hand rising from the ground. You can get in low with a wide lens and let a sculpture fill the frame against the tree canopy, or move to the bluff edge and use the river valley as the background with a longer lens to pull a piece out from the others. Winter is a fun option for shooting here. Fresh snow sitting on the carved scultpures and the bare trees opening the river view. The garden is free and open at all hours, but campus parking is paid. The Meewasin trail passes just below if you want to come in on foot from the riverbank. (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada)
