Seven Magic Mountains
Seven Magic Mountains places seven towering stacks of neon-painted boulders against the wide open Mojave Desert, creating one of the most visually striking contrasts in the American Southwest. The combination of electric pinks, yellows, and blues against the pale desert floor and distant mountain ranges gives you an almost surreal scene that reads well in photographs. Shoot from low and wide to emphasize the scale of the stacks against the sky, or get in close with a longer lens to isolate individual towers and compress the background mountains. Golden hour light is ideal, especially in the late afternoon when warm tones play off the painted surfaces without washing out the colors; midday sun can flatten the desert palette. The installation sits just off I-15 with a dedicated parking area, so access is straightforward. A wide angle in the 16-35mm range works well for environmental shots, while a 70-200mm helps with tighter compositions. (Jean, Nevada, United States)
