Shifen Falls is one of Taiwan's most impressive waterfalls, stretching roughly 40 meters wide in a curtain-style drop that earns it the nickname "Little Niagara of Taiwan." The width is what sets it apart photographically, so a wide-angle lens in the 16-35mm range helps you capture the full spread from the viewing platforms and riverbank below. You can get close to the water's edge for low compositions that include the turquoise pool and mist, or step back to frame the falls within the surrounding jungle canopy. Overcast days are ideal here since the soft, even light reduces harsh shadows on the white water and makes the greens pop; bright midday sun can blow out the cascade quickly. A neutral density filter lets you slow the shutter for silky water. The site has well-maintained paths and is a short walk from Shifen Station on the Pingxi Line.
