Shinkyō Bridge

Shinkyō Bridge is a historic sacred bridge spanning the Daiya River in Nikko, Japan. Painted in bright red lacquer, the elegant arched structure stands out against the forested hills and flowing mountain water. The bridge sits at the base of the road leading up to Nikko’s shrine and temple area, including Toshogu Shrine, and has long been regarded as a symbolic gateway to the sacred mountain precinct. Photographers can capture it from the riverbanks for classic side profiles, especially in autumn when foliage adds color, or in winter when snow contrasts with the red finish.
