About Shoreline Park
Shoreline Park runs along the top of the bluffs with the Pacific dropping away on one side and Shoreline Drive on the other. There is an amazing view from the point, where you can look across to the harbour breakwater, Stearns Wharf, and the red roofs of downtown, all with the Santa Ynez Mountains rising behind the city. From the western end of the park, on a clear day, the Channel Islands sit on the horizon with the oil platforms in between. A wooden staircase drops to a narrow beach below the bluff, where you can shoot along the cliff face or out over the bay. The coast faces south here, so the sun sets along the shore to the west rather than straight out to sea and the whole horizon in front of you catches some of the colour. The point is photogenic in the morning when the sun rises over the harbour and mountains. Grey whales often pass close by from about February to May. A long lens, patience and some luck gives you a good chance of capturing them from the benches along the bluff. There are two free parking lots sit at either end of the park but they close shortly while sunset, so plan to be out by then.(Santa Barbara, California, United States)
