Snoqualmie Falls drops 268 feet into a churning pool below, making it one of the most dramatic waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest and a rewarding subject for photographers of all skill levels. The main upper viewing platform gives you a direct frontal view of the full drop, but the real payoff comes from hiking down the short trail to the lower viewing area, where you can get close to the mist and frame the falls with mossy rocks and the river in the foreground. A wide angle lens works well from below to capture the full height, while a telephoto lets you isolate the crest from above. Overcast days are ideal since they eliminate harsh shadows and even out the exposure between water and surrounding forest. A neutral density filter helps smooth out the water on longer exposures. Parking is available at the top with easy paved access to the upper platform. (Snoqualmie, Washington, United States)
