Sõrve Lighthouse

Sõrve Lighthouse stands at the southern tip of Saaremaa island, a stark cylindrical concrete tower rising from a flat, windswept peninsula where the Gulf of Riga meets the Baltic Sea. The isolation and minimalist landscape are what make this spot compelling, with wide open skies, scrubby coastal vegetation, and the surrounding water giving you very clean, uncluttered compositions. Shoot wide to include the foreground textures of the rocky shoreline or low grasses leading up to the tower, or go tighter to emphasize the graphic geometry of the structure against dramatic clouds. Sunset and golden hour work beautifully here given the western exposure over the water, and stormy or overcast light adds a moody Baltic atmosphere that suits the remote character of the place. The site is accessible by road along the peninsula, and the open terrain means you can freely walk around the tower to find your preferred angle.
