Southwold's seafront is best known for its rows of vibrantly painted beach huts, which line the promenade above a wide sandy beach on the Suffolk coast. The huts come in bold, contrasting colours and sit in neat, repeating lines that reward symmetrical compositions and tight telephoto compression, a 70-200mm lens works well for flattening the rows and isolating individual huts. Get low on the beach to shoot up toward the huts with the sky behind them, or walk along the promenade to use the receding line of doors as a leading element. Early morning on a clear day gives you soft, directional light that brings out the colours without harsh shadows, and the beach is largely empty at that hour. Golden hour in the late afternoon can add warmth, especially when shooting facing south. Parking is available nearby and the seafront is flat and easy to walk. (Southwold, Suffolk, England)
