About Spiaggia Pubblica di Bellagio
Spiaggia Pubblica di Bellagio is a small grey pebble beach in the hamlet of San Giovanni with amazing views looking out across Lago di Como. Sitting just across the cove from the beach is the historic Villa Melzi d'Eril, built between 1808 and 1810 as a summer home for Francesco Melzi d'Eril, a friend of Napoleon. Its simple, symmetrical lines and gardens running along the shoreline make the perfect shooting backdrop. The beach's peaceful views are even more photogenic during sunrise as the warm light appears over the hilltops. There is lots of space along the shoreline to experiment with getting low at the water's edge to put pebbles in your foreground, plus on a calm morning the villa reflects in the lake. A longer lens lets you pull out the village as it climbs up the hillside across the water, while a wide lens fits in the whole cove and the mountains on the far shore. The beach stays quiet first thing in the morning, so you'll probably have it all to yourself. Spring is a great time to come, when the azaleas and rhododendrons are blooming in the gardens across the cove. There is lots of parking quite close to the beach. Since you are in the area make sure to plan in some extra time so you can walk through the Villa Melzi gardens after you are done capturing the beach views. (San Giovanni - Bellagio, Italy)
