This 15th-century stone church offers a classic English parish composition, with its square battlemented tower rising above a leafy churchyard filled with tilting headstones, wildflowers, and mature yew trees. Shooting from the churchyard gives you natural foreground interest; position yourself low among the gravestones to use them as leading elements toward the tower, or step back toward the boundary wall to capture the full profile of the building framed by overhanging branches. A wide to mid-range lens, something in the 24-50mm range, works well here. Overcast days are ideal since soft diffused light brings out the texture in the stonework without harsh shadows, though golden hour in the late afternoon catches warm tones on the west-facing tower beautifully. The churchyard is generally accessible during daylight hours and the quiet rural setting means you can take your time composing without crowds. (Easton-in-Gordano, North Somerset, England)
