This medieval granite church sits at the edge of St Ives harbour, its sturdy tower rising above the rooftops and making it one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Cornish coastline. The combination of weathered stone, fishing village architecture, and the harbour and sea beyond gives you a lot to work with in a compact area. Shoot from the harbour side to include boats in the foreground with the tower climbing into the sky, or move into the narrow surrounding streets to frame the church between cottages for a more compressed, layered composition. A wide to mid-range lens handles both the full tower and tighter architectural details well. Morning light hits the south-facing stonework cleanly, and overcast days bring out the texture of the granite without harsh shadows. The church is easy to reach on foot from the town centre, and the surrounding lanes offer multiple vantage points within a short walk. (St Ives, Cornwall, United Kingdom)
