About St John's Anglican Church
Right in the heart of Old Town Lunenburg, St. John's Anglican Church has been a local landmark since 1754, when it became the first church established in town. It was the second Church of England built in Nova Scotia, and today it's the second oldest Protestant church still standing in Canada, after St. Paul's Church in Halifax. The church survived a serious fire in 2001 and was carefully restored, so what you see now is a lovingly rebuilt version of this beautiful wooden Gothic Revival building, full of pointed windows, intricate trim and plenty of charming details to zoom in on. It's a National Historic Site of Canada and sits within Lunenburg's UNESCO-listed Old Town, so there's lots more colourful architecture to photograph just a short stroll away.
