St Mary's Church
St Mary's Church sits on a small island within Church Lake on the grounds of Orchardleigh Estate, one of the most unusually situated medieval churches in England. The combination of still water, ancient stonework, and surrounding woodland makes it a genuinely special subject, particularly when the lake reflects the church facade on calm mornings. Shoot from the shoreline opposite the entrance to capture the full reflection, or work around the water's edge to find compositions that incorporate overhanging trees as natural frames. Early morning in spring or autumn is ideal, when mist often sits low over the lake and the light is soft and directional. A mid-range zoom in the 24-70mm range covers most angles well.
