St. Michael's Church is one of New Jersey's oldest Episcopal parishes, and its mid-18th century stone facade offers a quiet, textured subject in the middle of downtown Trenton. The building's aged stonework, arched windows, and historic churchyard with weathered headstones give you strong material for detail shots as well as wider environmental compositions. Shooting from across North Warren Street lets you capture the full facade with some street context, while moving in close rewards you with tight shots of the masonry and window details. Overcast days work particularly well here, softening harsh shadows on the stone and bringing out the natural tones of the exterior. A standard zoom in the 24-70mm range handles most angles comfortably. The churchyard offers additional compositions framing gravestones against the building. Street parking is generally available nearby, and the site sits within easy walking distance of other historic downtown Trenton landmarks. (Trenton, New Jersey, United States)
