This historic Gothic Revival cathedral in downtown Peterborough rewards photographers who take time to explore both its exterior architecture and surrounding streetscape. The central buttressed tower and tall lancet windows are the standout features, so position yourself across the street to capture the full facade with a moderate wide-angle lens, around 24-35mm, to take in the tower without excessive distortion. Early morning light works well on the front face, reducing harsh shadows in the window details, while overcast days are ideal for even, diffused tones that flatter the stonework. Move around to the sides to find the buttresses at a three-quarter angle, which adds depth and dimension to your composition. Interior shots are possible during open hours, where the lancet windows create beautiful directional light through stained glass. Street-level framing with surrounding trees or mature landscaping can help add foreground interest. (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada)
