About St. Peter's Lighthouse
St. Peter's Lighthouse (Svjetionik Sveti Petar) is an amazing little gem sitting on its own rocky point overlooking the bay. The lighthouse is a square stone tower sitting right on top of the keeper's stone house, all surrounded by a walled terrace just a few metres from the water. Along the point pale limestone rocks slope into clear blue/green sea. The contrast between the rich tones of the water and pale stonework is amazing to work with. If you are able to get down low on the rocky shoreline, you can put the tower against open sky. Looking to the east, Makarska's waterfront sits beneath the grey wall of Biokovo Mountain as it rises straight up behind town. With the sun behind you over the sea, that mountain face and the town are highlighted in warm evening light. At sunset you can set up along the rocks on the harbour side so the tower becomes a dark silhouette against an orange sky, with the sun dropping into the sea behind it. Plan on staying into blue hour when the lighthouse switches on and the town lights come up across the water. From Makarska's waterfront it's a short walk along the harbour and onto the paths that loop around the peninsula. You are free to explore the lighthouse's rocky headland but the lighthouse itself is a holiday rental. Make sure to only shoot it from the paths and rocks outside the terrace wall. Summer evenings get busy, so claim a spot on the rocks before the sun gets low. (Makarska, Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia)
