The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque is the state mosque of Selangor. It is the largest mosque in Malaysia and features an enormous blue and silver aluminium dome, 51 metres across and over 100 metres high. The four minarets at each corner are among the tallest in the world. The site covers over 14 hectares and overlooks a landscaped park and lake. From across the water you can capture the full building and its reflection, especially around sunrise or sunset. The exterior blends Malay and Islamic design with West Asian influences, with decorative calligraphy running along the edges of the dome. Inside, sunlight filters through blue stained glass and casts a blue tone across the entire interior. The prayer hall has marble floors, geometric aluminium grilles on the walls and doorways, and crystal chandeliers from Turkey. Non Muslim visitors are welcome outside of prayer times. Free guided tours are available at the entrance and blue robes are provided if needed. The guides are friendly and will point out good spots to photograph. Tours run about an hour to an hour and a half. The mosque is easiest to reach by car or rideshare from Kuala Lumpur, or by KTM Komuter train to Shah Alam station. (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia)
