Sunset Arch
Sunset Arch is a slender, elegant natural span set against the open sandstone landscape of Grand Staircase-Escalante, offering one of the more accessible arch experiences in the monument without the crowds. The arch frames sky beautifully, so position yourself low and shoot through the opening to capture the surrounding ridge or a dramatic sky beyond. Golden hour and blue hour are both excellent here, and as the name suggests, the arch catches warm late-afternoon light particularly well. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range lets you include the full span and foreground texture. The approach is cross-country over open sand with no established trail, so download a GPS track before heading out and note that parking is along a dirt road that may require a high-clearance vehicle after rain. Aim for late afternoon and stay through twilight if conditions look promising. (Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah, United States)
