Surf City Pier
Surf City Pier is a classic fishing pier on Topsail Island and a fun spot to photograph along the North Carolina coast. The long wooden pier stretches far into the Atlantic, giving photographers a great subject whether you’re shooting from the beach or walking out onto the pier itself. From the sand, you can frame the repeating wooden pilings and waves rolling underneath, especially nice at sunrise when the light comes straight down the beach. There’s a small fee if you want to walk out onto the pier, but shooting from the beach and underneath it is completely free and often gives some of the best angles anyway. It’s an easy stop right in town and a great place to capture a simple, classic coastal scene. (Surf City, North Carolina, United States)
