Tauy Jones Hall
Tauy Jones Hall is a striking Romanesque Revival building on the Ottawa University campus, featuring warm red brick, arched windows, and a prominent corner tower that make it a rewarding architectural subject. The facade offers strong geometric compositions, and the tower works well as an anchor point with the surrounding trees framing the structure on either side. Morning light hits the front of the building with a warm glow that brings out the richness of the brick, while overcast days reduce harsh shadows and let you capture detail in the stonework and window arches. A wide to standard focal length, somewhere around 24mm to 50mm, gives you enough context to show the full character of the building without distortion. Get close to emphasize the texture of the masonry, or step back to include the campus grounds and mature trees for a sense of place. (Ottawa, Kansas, United States)
