Aberfeldy's Tay Bridge is also often known as "General Wade's Bridge", and was one of around 40 important bridges built by by General George Wade as part of a network of 250 miles of new roads built across the Highlands in the aftermath of the 1715 Jacobite uprising. The bridge dates back to 1735 and the opulence of its design reflects its role as a monument celebrating General Wade's entire project.
