The Te Anau Glowworm Caves is a mysterious underground world of water rushing through caves, before drifting in silent darkness beneath the luminous shimmer of glowworms. By geological standards the caves are very young (12,000 years) and are still being carved out by the massive force of the river that flows through them. The result is a stunning twisting network of limestone passages filled with sculpted rock, whirlpools and a roaring underground waterfall. This location is only accessibly by boat from across Lake Te Anau to the western shores, as there is no road access to these caves. (Te Anau, New Zealand)
